Vanessa Nixon Klein’s story began in the 1990’s when she was able to heal herself of chronic bronchitis through the study of natural medicine, a change to a natural diet and the addition of medicinal herbs.A couple years later she took a formal course of study in Herbal Medicine with Cascade Anderson Geller, a well-known herbalist in Portland, OR. After taking more classes and finishing advanced courses, but unsure of how to put her new-found knowledge to best use and not entirely comfortable asking people to put their health into her hands, Vanessa realized she had a genuine desire to work with herbs. A few brainstorming sessions later that included a serendipitous class in herbal soap making, she started a business hand crafting herbal soaps and skin care products, and soon after Herbs of Grace was born.
For several years her main marketing venue was the local farmer’s market in Vancouver, WA. Vanessa steadily grew her clientele base, and the part-time schedule worked well with her growing family of three daughters.
The one thing missing from Vanessa’s product list was all-natural makeup, yet this is what her clients were asking for. So after years of research, development and experimentation, in 2003 she debuted “Natural Look Mineral Makeup”, her line of all natural, vegan, 100% mineral cosmetics. It was an enormous hit! Within 6 months the line became 90% of her sales. The opportunity to streamline her product offerings presented itself and from 2004 on Vanessa Nixon Klein has been focusing exclusively on Natural Look Mineral Makeup, offered online as well as in retail outlets.
