DECEMBER SALE: 25% OFF ENTIRE PRODUCT LINE!
Online coupon code: line2

The sale item this month is THE ENTIRE LINE of Natural Look Mineral Makeup™! This sale also includes brushes and balms. Santa suggested that we offer a festive 25% off instead of the usual 20% discount. Our line drive only happens twice a year and won’t happen again for another 182 days! Wait if you can, but here’s your chance now.

Mineral Makeup Application Tip:
Using Natural Look Mineral Makeup™ Colors.

When it comes to color, you are the best judge. You can choose any shade from the Natural Look Mineral Makeup™ color palette for use as eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, lipstick, lip liner, brow liner, bronzer, body shimmer or even nail polish! Remember, it is best to apply the colors in sheer layers to create the look you want, from a soft healthy glow, to a more opaque evening look.

This month we’ll discuss using mineral color as eyeshadow, blush, bronzer and nail polish.

EYESHADOW

After you have chosen your desired Natural Look Mineral Makeup™ color, tap a small amount of powder into the container lid and use the fluff side of the Duo Angle/Fluff Brush to apply in light stokes on your eyelid. Use lighter shades for highlighting under your brow and medium shades for the lower part of your lid. Darker shades are perfect for the crease of your lid. If you have never used a Crease Brush, you will be amazed at the ease with which it allows you to apply perfect color to the crease area of the eyelid. It is definitely a great addition to your makeup brush collection.

BLUSH

Again, tap a small amount of the chosen shade of color into the lid and using the Blush Brush, apply in light strokes form the apple of the cheek outward along the cheekbone.

BRONZER OR BODY SHIMMER

Using the Kabuki or Blush Brush, apply your chosen shade on any area of the body you want to look bronzed or shimmery. Remember don’t try to get the tone you want by using a heavy layer. Use multiple sheer layers.

NAIL POLISH

Use clear nail polish and simply dip the nail polish brush into the desired Natural Look Mineral Makeup™ colors and apply to nails. Natural Look Mineral Makeup™ colors can also be mixed into clear or colored nail polish to create different shades.

We publish a new application tip every month. See them all here.

~Vegetarian Times Magazine Spotlights Natural Look Mineral Makeup. The November/December 2010 issue of Vegetarian Times did an article about natural mineral makeup and Natural Look Mineral Makeup made the cut!

The article mentions the great looking, natural color pallets that are available with mineral makeup. They looked at the myriad of fall colors available from different mineral makeup manufacturers. They choose Natural Look Mineral Makeup Oatstraw Eyeshadow for their article.

.

~ Mineral Makeup Application Tip: Wet Application of Natural Look Mineral Makeup Foundation Powder.

.

If you prefer a liquid foundation, it is easy to convert Herbs of Grace Powder/Foundation to a liquid. Add a drop of water to the powder you’ve tapped into the lid of your container, and, using the flocked sponge, mix the water and powder to the consistency you desire. Apply to the face with the flocked sponge in a downward motion, blending well. You can add more water or powder until you reach the consistency that works best for you.

.

If you have very dry or flaky skin, you can use a small amount of your favorite moisturizer in place of the water to make a cream foundation.

.

Wipe any excess liquid from the container lid with a clean tissue or cotton swab before closing.

.

Herbs of grace Powder/Foundation can also be used to set your makeup after you’ve applied eyeshadow, blush and lipstick. Tap a very small amount of powder into the lid of your container, and as before, use your Kabuki brush to apply a very sheer layer of powder over your entire face and neck.

.

Alternatively, you can mist your face lightly with water or rosewater and, after waiting a minute, use your flocked sponge to lightly go over your face in a downward motion. This not only helps to set your makeup, but also minimizes the appearance of large pores.

(If you would like to see the fully formatted version of this newsletter, pics and all, please feel free to subscribe to our monthly newsletter. The newsletter is written, primarily, by Brad and goes out on the first day of the month. Its intent, first and foremost, is to be a vehicle for information regarding our family and what we are doing to run a home based business, the second reason is to entertain, and the third reason is to promote our business. Hopefully the promotion aspect doesn’t overwhelm the first two reasons. If it does, please let me let me know.)

~ We promoted our Herb of Grace FaceBook fanpage last month with a (take a deep breath) 24 hour, 50% off and one person received their order for FREE!, sale. This was a first time deal for us and it was a lot of fun.

The only way you could take advantage of the sale was to be a fan of the Herbs of Grace FaceBook fanpage. A link to the 50% off coupon code was posted to the fanpage on 12:00 noon PDT, Thursday, April 20, 2010, Earth Day. The first person to use the coupon code was Kelly Clover from Knoxville, TN. Kelly got her order for FREE. Be sure to follow our FaceBook fanpage and our Twitter feed. You never know when we will announce our next sale.

And don’t forget, return customers always receive a 10% discount. See your online order shipping confirmation email for the coupon code.

~ We received some web press from Essential U. They gave us a nice mention in their blog last month. Essential U is the blog for Essential Wholesale. It is a free online resource that educates about natural and organic ingredients. The wholesale side has a slew of soap making supplies, aromatherapy and cosmetic ingredients, essential oils, extracts… you name it, AND it’s all organic. Check them out.

Make-up Mag~ It seems like Groundhog day around here. Every time I send out a newsletter that mentions Jenny Karl, (jennykarl.com) I get a notice that she has AGAIN mentioned Natural Look Mineral Makeup(tm) in an article or event. This time, in another Diva Village article titled Spring 2010 Trend: Eco-Friendly Fashion. She says, “My fave is Herbs of Grace. They have a large assortment of bright loose powders, which come in matte or shimmer and can be used on eyes, lips, and cheeks!”

Last month Jenny also did some charity work for Makeup Artist magazine (see photo at right). That’s Jenny at the lower right. According to Jenny “Everyone loved the products and how they looked!”

Thanks for all the kind compliments, Jenny and keep those article coming!

~+~ It has been brought to my attention that Mineral Makeup Mutiny published a nice blog article about us in November 2009. They also granted us permission to use this:

MMutinybadge
At Herbs of Grace, Inc., we feel that the products you put on your skin should be the cleanest possible. Like our byline says, “No synthetics, No additives, No nano-particles”. This goes for our personal food and lifestyle choices, as well. We are, simply, fed up with the junk that corporate america shovels at consumers. So, at Herbs of Grace, we decided to walk the talk by making natural/organic choices, every time. In our business and in our personal lives.

.

Back in early 2008, Herbs of Grace, Inc. with the help of Jenny Karl, published a Beauty Bill of Rights. Let us know what you think. We encourage you to take the organic plunge, it feels really good.

.

~+~ Speaking of Jenny Karl (jennykarl.com a friend of ours from the city of Angels who is mad about makeup and beauty), published an article in January plugging our products. And now she went and DID IT AGAIN last month.

.

In March, Jenny describes how to get the Bar Refaeli look at Diva Village by using our Primrose blush.

.

Article highlights: How To Get Cheeks Like Bar Refaeli.

A brighter blush is “muy importante” for this look! A rosy cheek will create that Bar Refaeli healthy glow and give life to your face. Use a medium size, natural hair blush brush, to apply the color a little at a time directly to the apples or balls of the cheeks. Try Primrose, Natural Mineral Color from Herbs of Grace.

.

Jenny also did a Spring Trends article for The Hair and Makeup Artists Network.

.

Article highlights: Spring Trend 2010

Have no fear; there are many all-natural makeup lines that offer brighter and even ultra shimmery colors. My fav is Herbs of Grace. They have a large assortment of bright loose powders, which come in matte or shimmer and can be used on eyes, lips, and cheeks! Thanks, Jenny!

.

~+~ There are three new retail locations where you can now purchase Natural Look Mineral Makeuptm. They are:

You can find all of our retailers on our locations page.

.

~+~ We had a few blog posts in March. The HoG Blog is a snap shot of our day to day activites, comments and pictures. It contains some business matters, but mostly it’s about our lives trying to make a living with a home based business, the kids, a dog, and an 1895 farm house. Recent blog posts are:

April Fools!, Snow, UW Campus, April Sale

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Vanessa and I woke up this morning to “Hey Mom, there’s a rainbow outside!”, “Hey Dad, there’s a bat in the house!”, “Hey Mom, the rabbits and chickens are loose!”, “Hey Dad, there’s a crab in the bathtub” and all of them were followed by “April Fools!”. In the past, there have been bats in the house, the chickens and rabbits have been loose, and there are always rainbows in the yard with three kids in the family. Although I have not seen, nor have I heard any stories about, a crab in the bathtub.

It’s been snowing today. Finally around 2:30, it turned to rain. Begrudgingly, I took the studded snow tires off the car, only because Washington law says I have to. The kids and I were up at the pass yesterday playing in a blizzard. Compact snow and ice on the road starting at about 3000 feet. Seems to me that a two week exemption should be made this year. After I had the tires changed, I read an article in the paper that the state patrol has the authority to make decisions in the field as to whether the studs are needed or not.

We met some friends at the ski area and ended our day swimming in a 100 degree swimming pool, during the blizzard. We ran to the pool in our bathing suits and bare feet, with 6 inches of snow on the ground and snow swirling in the air. After we warmed up, we rolled in the snow and then jumped back into the pool. The girls had a great time. Experiencing a new definition of fun is a great thing!

We were in Seattle the other day for the Whole Foods Holiday show. The girls and I took some time to tour the UW campus.

We also cruised the Student Union and a couple of academic buildings. It was spring break so everything was quiet. We’ll have to visit again during a business day.

Early Morning, Spring and the Economy, Daylite Savings.

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Maleah used to get up with me in the morning to see me off to work. It was a nice start to my day. She and I would talk small and look at each other bleary eyed, while eating our oatmeal. After breakfast, she and Sheba our dog, would walk to the end of the driveway to give me a send off as I drove up the road. The other morning, Maleah grabbed the camera to take some early AM shots.

After I leave, she gets some quality computer time before everyone else wakes up.

All the girls performed at their piano recital in early February. Here are some movies.

The economic news these days is not optimistic, which makes Springs job all the more important. We have appreciated the dry Winter and mild January and February, but are looking forward to a renewed and refreshing take on life. Had it been a cold, wet, dreary Winter, I think the economy would have overwhelmed us. As it is, thanks in part to the mild weather, I just put it out of my mind, there is nothing I can do about it anyway.

We had a 20% sale on all multi-purpose colors during February. Out next sale is during April; you’ll get 20% off all brush purchases. All of our specials are posted at the top of our home page.

Vanessa has been tending her green house all winter. We have a couple of heat lamps on a thermometer switch to keep the tiny starts happy. The lights come on at 38 degrees and kick off at 45 or so. She’s been harvesting greens for salads the past couple of weeks.
